Song: 'Good in '62'

Listen to 'Good in '62'

A Brooklyn, NY-based musician, Dayna Kurtz conjures up some classic rockabilly with this barn-burner of a tune. But that's just part of her musical story, as Dayna has two albums coming out April 10. 'American Standard' features the singer's rootsier side, belting out raw country, swamp-filled blues and drunken rockabilly awash in slide guitar and harmonica. She's joined on a couple of tunes by special guest and rockabilly legend Sonny Burgess. The other album, 'Secret Canon Vol 1,' is a collection of her interpretations of lost classics, which she says is an homage to her "lifelong love of smoky mid-century chanteuse records from the R&B and jazz bins."

Story Behind the Lyrics:

"'Good in '62' was begun in New Orleans at a festival called the Ponderosa Stomp," Dayna explains to The Boot. "[It] brings '50s and '60s recording artists, most of them obscure, back out into the limelight. One performer was talking about selling 12,000 records in 1962, and the rest of the song is an amalgamation of a few performers I saw that weekend, and a bit about the whole festival itself."
