Andy Gibson, ‘Wanna Make You Love Me’ Caused a Family Freakout

Andy Gibson, whose single, "Wanna Make You Love Me" has climbed into the Top 30 on the country chart, vividly remembers the first time he heard the tune on the radio.

"I was stuck in Los Angeles in downtown traffic," Andy tells The Boot. "The song came on the radio, it was like 2 o'clock in the afternoon. I was there with my twin nieces and my sister, and they're freaking out in the car. I can't believe it's on the radio. I videoed it on my iPhone. I recorded the moment because I couldn't believe it! I didn't know what else to do."

Of course, as co-writer of Jason Aldean and Kelly Clarkson's huge hit (and newly crowned ACM Single and Vocal Event of the Year) "Don't You Wanna Stay," Andy is familiar with hearing his creations on the radio. He also knows penning such a massive success has helped open the door to his solo career.

"Having someone like [Jason and Kelly] endorse your music while they sing it and perform it is awesome is," he says. "I'm not so much of a stranger anymore. People hear that song and they know, 'OK, that's the music that he makes.' It's a cool thing to go out and tell, and it introduces you to people in an indirect way."

Even if Andy had kept the song for himself, he still would've tried to recruit Kelly as a duet partner. "She's a down-home kind of girl and an amazing vocalist and really added so much to that song. I can't imagine it any different from how they did it," he says.

There is a possibility of Andy, who is fluent in Spanish, collaborating with another famous female artist. He's written with Shakira's producer and bandleader, "so who knows?" he says. Regardless of whether he performs with the "Hips Don't Lie" singer, Andy has plans to record in Spanish. "We're working on something right now, just a little record," he says. "I can't really talk about it too much yet, but something is in the works."

In the meantime, Andy's debut country album is due out later this spring.
