Vince Gill Made an Honorary Narcotics Officer in Tennessee

Vince Gill has a surprising new gig -- fighting a war on in drugs in southeastern Tennessee. The country crooner/guitarist has been sworn in as an honorary narcotics officer and presented a McMinn Co. Sheriff's badge. His qualifications?

"Vince's outstanding character makes him a perfect celebrity candidate for this appointment," says Sheriff Joe Guy. "His stance on drug abuse and his charity work go hand in hand." As for performing the duties of a narcotics officer, Vince is likely to be more useful as a moral core in the meth-stricken county of McMinn as opposed to having firsthand experience in dealing with illicit substances.

"I've never used drugs, and never had those types of problems," says the superstar. "If I had, my daddy would have killed me."

Last month, the multiple Grammy winner and his wife, Amy Grant, were recognized by Nashville's Tennessean newspaper as Tennesseans of the Year for 2011, not only for their musical achievements but also for their enduring philanthropy, supporting over 60 charitable organizations. In fact, Vince had the honorary officer's badge presented to him during his charity concert for the Chattanooga Children's Advocacy Center.
