Tim McGraw is donating his time and talents for a worthwhile cause. The singer has announced plans to perform a benefit concert for Sandy Hook Promise, a non-profit organization that seeks to prevent gun violence, led by family members affected by the tragic Sandy Hook school shooting.

“Out of this tragedy, a group was formed that made a promise to honor the lives lost and turn it into a moment of transformation,” McGraw says of the Dec. 14, 2012, school shooting, during which 20 children and six adults were killed. “Sandy Hook Promise teaches that we can do something to protect our children from gun violence. I want to be a part of that promise -- as a father and as a friend.”

McGraw has a personal connection to the devastating event: His fiddle player, Dean Brown, is close friends with Mark Barden, whose son Daniel was killed at Sandy Hook. Daniel Barden was seven years old at the time of his death.

“Dean and his wife Cindy helped my wife and I through our darkest hour and helped buoy our spirits," Mark Barden says. "It meant more than words could ever say."

A Concert for Sandy Hook Promise will be held on July 17 at XFINITY Theatre in Hartford, Conn., with Chase Bryant and Billy Currington, along with special surprise guests who will be announced later, joining McGraw. Tickets will go on sale on April 17 at 10AM ET through LiveNation.com and Ticketmaster.

McGraw is hitting the road this summer on his 2015 Shotgun Rider Tour, with Bryant and Currington serving as his opening acts. He will also headline the 2015 Taste of Country Music Festival and Country Jam 2015, both of which are scheduled for June.
