Thompson Square have released a brand-new single, "Trans Am," as well as its accompanying lyric video.

The song is from their highly anticipated upcoming third studio album.

"Blair Daly had the title, and we all jumped on it," Keifer Thompson recalls to Rolling Stone Country of the tune, which he wrote with his wife and bandmate Shawna Thompson, Daly and Nathan Chapman. "I've wanted that car ever since I can remember, especially after I saw Smokey and the Bandit, of course. We both love American muscle cars, and that's, without a doubt, one of the most identifiable representations of American muscle."

Adds Shawna Thompson, "We wanted this album to reflect what our live show is like. It's a very tempo-driven project and probably represents us more than both of its predecessors."

The pair has been preparing their upcoming project for over a year, trying to make it just right.

“We’ve been working on this next record ever since the last record came out,” Keifer Thompson reveals. “It’s a very painstaking process that we take very seriously, so it’s something we want to get out as much as we can."

Thompson Square's sophomore album, Just Feels Good, spawned the No. 1 single "If I Didn't Have You," but the husband-and-wife duo hint that they are branching out with their new set of tunes.

“"Trans Am" is a state of mind," Keifer Thompson says. "It’s about liberation and not being painted into a corner. These new recordings show a more aggressive side of Thompson Square and reflects what fans experience at our live shows. It’s a lot of fun for us.”

The Thompsons are ready to step out of their comfort zone and invite their fans to come along for the ride.

"This album is going to be very different from any other we've done," Keifer Thompson says. "We really focused on writing great songs and not giving much thought to the 'married couple' aspect of who we are. It was extremely liberating for us not to paint ourselves into that corner."

"Trans Am" will hit radio on April 13. It is available for download on iTunes.
