In the pre-telecast Premiere Ceremony, the SteelDrivers took home the 2016 Grammy Awards Best Bluegrass Album trophy, for The Muscle Shoals Recordings.

"I guess four is the charmer!" said Tammy Rogers, holding the award aloft and referencing the times that the group has been nominated for (but not won) Grammys in the past.

The band thanked their families and expressed excitement for their pal Jason Isbell, who had just won the two previously announced awards; in fact, the SteelDrivers were so into Isbell's wins that they didn't realize their award was up to be announced. Isbell, a longtime friend of SteelDrivers member Gary Nichols, contributed slide guitar on two of The Muscle Shoals Recordings' songs and also co-produced two tracks.

“He was just really present and there … And he stayed with it. We sent mixes of the two songs that he co-produced with us, and he signed off on the mixes,” Rogers tells The Boot. “It wasn’t just like showing up for the day and forgetting about it; he was invested in it.”

Other Best Bluegrass Album nominees at the 2016 Grammy Awards Pocket Full of Keys by Dale Ann Bradley; Before the Sun Goes Down by Rob Ickes and Trey Hensley; In Session by Doyle Lawson & Quicksilver; and Man of Constant Sorrow by Ralph Stanley & Friends.
