The Band Perry’s First Original Song Was About … a Pet Bunny Rabbit

The Band Perry, comprised of siblings Kimberly, Reid and Neil Perry, are known for hits such as “If I Die Young,” “Done,” “Better Dig Two” and more from their two studio albums, The Band Perry and Pioneer. But do you know what the first song frontwoman Kimberly Perry ever wrote was?

The singer began writing music not because she had broken up with a boyfriend or was being bullied. Rather, she started writing, when she was eight years old, because her heart was broken … because her pet bunny Beatrice died. The sad passing of that dear pet inspired her first song, “Bunny Rabbits Are Nice.” Sure, you probably won’t hear the tune during the country trio’s highly energetic live shows, but Beatrice probably felt very loved from pet heaven.

All three members of TBP began performing at young ages. At the ages of 8 and 10, respectively, Neil Perry and Reid Perry opened for their big sister as the Mobile Music Machines, and later, they joined together as the Band Perry. They were discovered in 2008 by Garth Brooks‘ manager Bob Doyle.

Be sure to watch the video above, part of Taste of Country‘s You Think You Know Country? series. In it, you’ll learn more about TBP’s hair secrets, parents and more.
