Scotty McCreery has been an avid supporter of St. Jude Children's Research Hospital, and now his fans are getting in on the action as well. In honor of his recent single, "Southern Belle," the Scotty McCreery Fan Club has created the Southern Belles, to participate in the St. Jude Walk/Run to End Childhood Cancer, held on Saturday, Sept. 26 at 8:00 AM, in Nashville.

“I’ve always said I have the greatest fans in the world, and it makes me both happy and proud to see them create ‘The Southern Belles’ as a way of raising funds for St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital,” McCreery says in a statement.  “St. Jude performs miracles regularly for children from all walks of life. I am truly honored and thankful that my fans want to support such a worthwhile organization in my name.”

Anyone who wants to join “The Southern Belles” can visit the St. Jude Walk/Run to End Childhood Cancer website, to sign up to walk with the team, donate money to St. Jude for the fight against childhood cancer, or both. Everyone who enters will be entered into a drawing to win a prize pack.

"Southern Belle" is the debut single from McCreery's upcoming new album, which the Season 10 American Idol winner says is a departure from his previous records. With lines like, "Somewhere down South there’s a swingin’ screen door / Sun-dressed beauty on a hot front porch / Knocking one back baby, oh my Lord, have mercy / Shootin’ out gravel, saying oh my stars / She’s Dukes of Hazzard in her daddy’s car / Amazing grace in a Mason jar, have mercy," the song is more adult-themed than any of his previous tunes.

"This is probably about as far left as we'll go," he tells Rolling Stone Country. "When my producer [Frank Rogers] heard it, he said, 'I think we can Scottify this.'"

McCreery has a clear vision of what he wants the new project to sound like.

“I’m going to make a country music record," he says. "The stuff I grew up with was that kind of music — I want to have some depth and portray a different side.”
