Scotty McCreery Has Microphone Malfunction at World Series

He hit all the high notes, remembered every lyric and wowed the crowd singing the ‘Star Spangled Banner’ at Game 1 of the World Series, but Scotty McCreery may still want a do-over. That’s because he had to start the song over, due to a microphone malfunction. On television, we saw the country music chart-topper on the St. Louis Cardinals’ field singing the first few lines, “Oh say can you see / By the dawn’s early light” … but we couldn’t hear him. Either someone had forgotten to turn on Scotty’s microphone, or it wasn’t working. A quick-thinking camera operator panned to a shot of the American flag while someone fixed the problem. And when the cameras came back to the 18-year-old singer, he seemed completely unfazed as he started the song over again. Guess all those live performances on ‘American Idol‘ taught Scotty how to roll with the punches on live TV!

The North Carolina native kept his cool again today on Twitter: “Well, as Mr. George Strait would say, I wasn’t here for a long time, but I was here for a good time! Great time in St. Louis yesterday!” he tweeted this morning.

Performing at the World Series was a dream come true for Scotty, who plays high school baseball. “It’s an incredible opportunity,” he told The Boot earlier this month. “I’m a baseball nut. I have two loves: baseball and music. So to be able to sing and watch the game after … It’s the biggest day in baseball! Everybody dreams about going to that game, so to be able to sing at the game — it’s a moment I’ll never forget.”

Scotty’s debut album, ‘Clear as Day,’ sits on top of the country charts for the second week in a row. With the CD’s No. 1 debut also on the Billboard 200 chart, he became the first country artist ever to top the all-genre chart with their first studio album. He’s also the youngest male singer ever to top the Billboard 200 on the first week of his solo debut.
