Scotty McCreery Makes Guinness World Records Book

When you think about breaking Guinness world records, your thoughts may leap to awards for the longest fingernails in the world, or saying all the names of "Star Trek" episodes in less than a minute. However, Scotty McCreery will appear in the new Guinness World Records 2013 book for something a bit simpler, yet (in our book) much more impressive.

Scotty takes the title of the youngest male to enter the U.S. album charts at No. 1. In 2011, the 18-year-old's debut album, Clear as Day, premiered at the top of the all-genre Billboard 200 albums chart, also making him the first "American Idol" winner to do so since Ruben Studdard in 2003.

The North Carolina State University student isn't the only musician to make the record book this year. Rihanna is recognized as the best-selling digital artist in the U.S., with 47.57 million digital tracks sold during her career. Additionally, Lady Gaga takes the title for fastest-selling U.S. digital album with Born This Way, which sold 1.1 million copies its first week.

Adele takes several records as well, becoming the first female artist, the first U.K. artist and the fastest artist to reach digital sales of one million in the U.S. The Queen of Heartbreak also set new records for the biggest-selling digital track in the U.S. in a calendar year with "Rolling in the Deep." The tune was downloaded 5.81 million times in 2011.
