Scotty McCreery Scores Another Hit … in Math Class
Nineteen-year-old Scotty McCreery's impressive accomplishments include winning the 10th season of "American Idol," selling more than one million albums and touring the country with Brad Paisley, but those feats pale in comparison to what the singer is excited about right now.
"I made a 98 on my first math test," the college freshman proudly informs the Washington Post. "I was pumped about that because math is not one of my best things."
The North Carolina State University student chose to stay close to his Garner, N.C., home while he begins his studies, instead of moving closer to Nashville.
"Going to State, it gives me a chance to have a little bit of a home base, to have a little bit of normalcy -- whatever normal is," Scotty explains. "I think it's good for me as a person. I'm still figuring out what my normal is."
The singer lives in an off-campus apartment only a few minutes away from his childhood home, but he doesn't get to spend much time with his family. In addition to his studies, he also squeezes in time to play intramural football, while also promoting his upcoming Christmas With Scotty McCreery album and working on his sophomore CD.
"We're still looking for songs because that's what the second album is about for me," Scotty notes. "I'm going to be picking and choosing. Country music is about the songs. This last year I've had sold-out shows, I've won awards and stuff, but I haven't had that huge monster hit yet. That's a song I really need to have."
Although he may be the most recognizable student on campus, Scotty's celebrity status doesn't matter among his peers.
"I thought they would [treat me differently]," he told The Boot. "I was kind of scared going back, because we didn't know how it would work out, but they're probably the ones that slap me around the most and say, 'Stop singing! Shut up, Scotty! They like to poke fun at me."
The Virtual Reality tour will wrap up Oct. 20 in Los Angeles. See the remaining tour dates here.
Christmas With Scotty McCreery will be released Oct. 16.
