In February of 1991, Reba McEntire released "Fancy," one of her most iconic hits, a song still known all over the world. Now, more than 25 years later, that track has inspired a brand-new musical featuring some of country music's most classic songs.

Broadway World reports that, in mid-March, theater producer Margot Astrachan and the Peccadillo Theater Company in New York City will present Fancy, a new musical that tells the story of a 16-year-old Louisiana girl pursuing her dreams against all odds. Just as in the song "Fancy," the musical Fancy is about a poor young girl (named Fancy, of course) who is pushed out of her house by her mother and has to survive on the streets. Despite her circumstances, Fancy is determined to make music and is eventually is set on a path toward country music stardom.

In addition to its title song, Fancy will feature a host of other girl-power country anthems, including Loretta Lynn's "Don't Come Home a'Drinkin' (With Lovin' on Your Mind)," Bonnie Raitt's "I Can't Make You Love Me," Carrie Underwood's "Before He Cheats" and Gretchen Wilson's "Redneck Woman." Other songs incorporated into the play include hits from Johnny Cash, Garth Brooks, Randy Travis, Merle Haggard, George Strait, Alabama and more.

"Fancy is a new American musical that brings together some of the all-time greatest crossover country songs on stage with some of the theatre's brightest talents," explains Astrachan. "We're looking forward to this developmental presentation and hope it will inspire producing partners to join us as we look to a production at a major regional theatre company prior to a New York production and national tour."

The developmental production of Fancy will debut at the Westside Theatre in New York City on March 16 and 17.
