When most artists reach the level that Miranda Lambert has achieved in the past year, they don't take the risk of starting a brand new all-girl band. However, Miranda's never been typical, and therefore becoming a founding member of the Pistol Annies, along with Ashley Monroe and Angaleena Presley, shouldn't be too much of a surprise.

"For now it's just a fun outlet for me and my friends to have some fun," she tells the Abilene Reporter-News. "We will let the fans decide if they want to hear/see more."

The group, which made their public debut during the ACM 'Girls Night Out' special, is a dream come true for the multi-tasking singer-songwriter. "We've been writing songs like crazy, and I always wanted to do a girl project," Miranda explains. "It's not your typical girl trio. We definitely have an edge. [laughs] We sing a lot about housewives."

Still, fans don't need to worry that there's any chance the feisty singer will abandon her solo career for the new band. "I have been writing for the next [solo] project, but it's still in its infancy, so too early to tell what will happen," she reveals. "I guess just take it one day at a time, to keep everything in perspective. I try to focus on the writing part and let my team figure out release dates, but I know we are hoping to have something out before Christmas."

The hard-working artist may feel a new wave of creative energy, thanks to her recent friendship with country music legend Loretta Lynn. "We met while I sang 'Coal Miner's Daughter' on her tribute record recently," Miranda explains. "Both Sheryl Crow and myself went to her Hurricane Mills ranch to shoot the video with Loretta for the project. It changed my life spending the day with her, truly an inspiring woman."

Miranda is currently off the road, gearing up for her upcoming wedding to Blake Shelton and secret honeymoon. She will return to her Revolution tour, along with opening acts Justin Moore and Josh Kelley, June 8 in Connecticut. See her concert schedule here.
