Why We Dig Him: Being of half-Spanish descent, 20-year-old Phillip Thomas couldn't help being influenced by Tejano music, but this diverse collection proves he was also exposed to heavy doses of rock and classic country growing up. And as an accomplished young guitarist, he's put that instrument to good use on his debut disc. He also knows how to party - just out of high school he was opening for Willie Nelson at Texas' notorious spring break destination, South Padre Island.
