If you're looking for what's hot in country music right now, Mitchell Tenpenny is your man. With his 2018 debut single "Drunk Me," Tenpenny earned a hit of his own -- the song topped the charts -- but judging by the playlist he assembled for The Boot, he knows what else is making waves.

What's Tenpenny listening to? The tunes that are moving and shaking this artist's world these days don't have him stuck in a country rut. Rather, Tenpenny's finding inspiration in other genres as well.

On Tenpenny's playlist, you'll find folk artist Dermot Kennedy's "Glory" -- which Tenpenny says he loves because “vocals vocals vocals feels feels feels" -- and "We Rode In Trucks" by Luke Bryan (which Tenpenny says "reminds me of high school and simpler times"). "One Man Band" by Old Dominion is also one of his favorites.

“This is how songs should be written," Tenpenny explains of Old Dominion's brand-new song. He adds of Dan + Shay's "All to Myself," "The melodies are incredible, and Shay [Mooney] hits an octave note at the end of the song that blows me away."

“I think every girl deserves to get some idiot dude off their mind when they have been screwed over," Tenpenny says of Devin Dawson's empowering song "War Paint." It sits on his playlist alongside Ashley McBryde's "Girl Going Nowhere," and Maren Morris' "Girl" and "Walls Come Down," a song by Tenpenny's girlfriend, Canadian country artist Meghan Patrick.

Throughout Tenpenny's playlist -- an eclectic mix of pop and country -- the rock 'n' roll vibe that he owns in his own music shines through. Press play below to hear all of his picks.
