As a mother of three, Martina McBride knows all about the ups and downs of parenting and has shared the lessons she's learned in songs such as 'In My Daughters Eyes.' Now that her eldest, Delaney (16), is a teenager, a whole new chapter has been opened.

"John, my husband, took Delaney to school [one] morning, and she said, 'Mom hates me.' I'm like, 'What are you talking about? That's ridiculous,'" Martina tells Our Country. "But I must have gotten on her a little bit too much. So [my co-writers and I] started talking and I said that's what we should write about."

During a private party at her home last week, Martina unveiled 'Teenage Daughters' as the first single from her much anticipated album, which is scheduled to be released this year. Martina wrote the tune with the Warren Brothers.

Although the song was inspired by her daughter, many can relate to the songs lyrics. Here's a sample:

I ain't complaining but I'm tired, so I'm just saying what I think / If we're being honest, then honestly, I think I need a drink / My baby's growing up, she thinks she's falling all in love, and that I hate her / At 17, she's just like me when I was 17, so I don't blame her.

As a play on the lyrics, the theme of Martina's party was 'Martinis and Martina.' Despite the humorous slant to its introduction, a lot of thought went into choosing the song as her first single on the Republic Nashville imprint.

"We were leaning toward another song for the first single, and then I recorded this song, and I said I wanted it to be the first," she explains. "This is a different sound for me, and also, it's my truth-it's really real."

And she isn't the only one who thought so. "When we played five or six songs for the record label, they immediately turned around after 'Teenage Daughters' was over and said 'That's your first single,'" she adds. "And I was so happy. Yes, it's about people who have teenage daughters, but also, if you've been a teenage daughter, if you have a niece or sister or somebody in your life that you're close to that you've gone through the teenage years with, you can identify with it for sure."
