After the unexpected death of his brother-in-law, Ben Lee Cheshire, late last year, Luke Bryan's family has gotten a little bigger.

Bryan and his wife Caroline have welcomed their 13-year-old nephew Til -- the son of Cheshire and Bryan's sister Kelly, who passed away in 2007 -- into their Nashville, Tenn., home. Til's sisters, Bryan's two nieces, are both older but also visit regularly.

"It's every day on the phone all day trying to talk with the family and figure out what to do, but it's what you gotta do," he tells ABC News. "Tough stuff."

The 'I See You' singer is no stranger to loss himself, having also dealt with the death of his brother Chris, who was killed in a car accident in 1996.

"We feel like if we just stay positive through this, maybe we'll be a positive inspiration for people that had these things happen to 'em," Bryan says. "You just have to plow on and play the hand that's dealt.

"I have to pray that people that have had similar situations can maybe look at my family and see me positively dealing with it," he adds. "I'm not saying it's easy."

In December, just a few weeks after his father's death, Til joined Bryan and his wife at the 2014 American Country Countdown Awards.

“We’re going hunting tomorrow on a trip down to south Texas,” the star told People after the show. “So he came into town and we dressed him up and let him have a little fun with us tonight.”

Bryan and Caroline have two sons, 6-year-old Bo and 4-year-old Tate.

“So now I went from having two boys in the house to having a 13-year-old boy in the house," Bryan says, "which is a whole ‘nother set of learning that you have to do."
