Lady Antebellum Admit Their Upcoming Tour Is ‘Scary’

As Lady Antebellum prepare for the second leg of their Own the Night tour with Darius Rucker and Thompson Square, the reality of playing larger venues is becoming more apparent to the trio.

“It’s kind of scary when you see the Staples Center and the American Airlines Arena in Dallas — when you actually look at it on paper,” Lady A’s Dave Haywood tells the Wall Street Journal. “When the rubber meets the road, will we really be able to sell this many tickets?”

They shouldn’t worry too much, though, since fans will be experiencing their vision from start to finish. “This is the tour we’ve always dreamed of putting together,” bandmate Charles Kelley explains. “We got to help design the stage and really collaborate on new production ideas, and now we’re trying to hone in on the perfect set list to give the fans a cool mix of hits and some of their favorite songs from the new record. Plus, we’ve been working on some really intimate moments for our show, where we can really break things down and be close to the crowd.”

While 2011 brought much success for the group — hosting ‘Saturday Night Live,’ selling a million copies of ‘Own the Night,’ as well as plentiful songwriting accolades –they recognize that there is still much further to go.

Garth Brooks sold 100 million records,” Dave acknowledges. “Tim [McGraw] and Faith [Hill] just got dolls.”

“I don’t think we’re doll-worthy just yet,” Charles adds.

While Lady A’s debut album was a tremendous success that put them on the country music map, it was the Grammy-winning title track of their sophomore album, ‘Need You Now,’ that shot them to international superstardom. But Dave, Charles and bandmate Hillary Scott don’t want to be solely known for wearing their hearts on their musical sleeves.

“We don’t ever want to be a band that writes an album that’s like 12 sappy love songs,” Charles admits.

“We’ll always have that melancholy side,” Hillary notes.

The second leg of the Own the Night tour kicks off Jan. 27 in Tulsa, Okla. Get a complete list of Lady A concert dates here.
