Numerous celebrities and missionaries have made the trek to Haiti since the country's devastating earthquake in 2010. Among them is Lady Antebellum's Hillary Scott, whose visit sparked the creation of the organization MyLifeSpeaks, which is dedicated to helping the more than 500,000 Haitian orphans.

"How has Haiti changed my life? Well, it has completely transformed my thinking," the newlywed says in a MyLifeSpeaks video (watch below). "I will never say the words 'I'm starving' again, because I'm not ... You just fall in love with these people. They are some of the most beautiful, big hearted, friendly, amazing people."

It was during this trip that Hillary took with the Tennessee couple, Mike and Missy Wilson, that the three visited the Wings of Hope special needs orphanage. "That's where I was hooked," Hillary explains. "I had a heart for these special needs orphans."

That caused Hillary to ask Missy the question that created MyLifeSpeaks; "Why can't we do something to help children in Haiti with special needs?"

The organization has big hopes to build a compound that will hold 40 orphans, and is equipped with a community center, a medical center, gardens and more. To start with, the charity is building one house that will be home to eight orphans, some of which are special needs and some are "older" orphans who are less likely to be adopted.

"The whole creative idea of MyLifeSpeaks is to combine those two in one home with two house parents and eight children, integrate special needs orphans and older orphans who don't have disability together as a family," the songstress explains. The model is based on Mike and Missy's homelife, which includes three biological sons, one of which has severe special needs, two daughters they recently adopted from Haiti and their oldest adopted daughter Katie, who is in her 20s. In this environment, the orphans will be given chores and the older kids will be taught how to care for their younger "siblings," in an effort to give them a sense of achievement.

MyLifeSpeaks is taking groups of charitable peoples to Haiti to assist the community and build the first of their homes in the country. More information about visiting Haiti and donating to the cause may be found here.
