Kenny Rogers penned many of his own hits, including 'Love or Something Like It' and 'Sweet Music Man,' and now the entertainer is trying his hand at a new kind of writing. The 72-year-old is hard at work on his first autobiography, which will chronicle the highs and lows of his personal and professional lives.

"I must admit, the older I get, the more interesting my life used to be," says Kenny (quote via MSN). "I also realized that if I don't do it now, I may forget it all."

The country music legend also just released a gospel album, 'The Love of God' exclusively through Cracker Barrel, which he describes as the fulfillment of a dream he held onto for a long time. "'The Love of God' is the culmination of an idea I had been thinking about for years but never had the opportunity to bring to life," he says. "It's been a musical awakening to me"

The married father of five, including six-year-old twin boys may have to shelve his writing for several weeks, when he heads to South America on May 18 to perform a series of shows in Brazil, Uruguay, Chile, Argentina and Peru. See his concert schedule here.

The book, which will be released by HarperCollins, is tentatively scheduled for a fall release.
