During Monday night's (Oct. 2) vigil in Nashville in honor of victims of the Route 91 Harvest Festival shooting, Keith Urban performed Simon & Garfunkel's "Bridge Over Troubled Water." The song's message is fitting following the tragedy.

Readers can watch Urban's performance in the video above; he takes the stage at about the 21-minute mark. Before singing, Urban shares a story about taking his older daughter, Sunday, to school on Monday morning, and recalls the conversation they had on the way. When Sunday asked her dad why he was so quiet that morning, he explained to her what was going on.

"I said, 'Yeah, I'm really -- there were a lot of people killed last night.' And she said, 'Did you know any of them?' And I said, 'Not that I know of.' And then she said, 'Then why are you so sad?'" Urban recounted. "And I said, 'Well, first of all, these were innocent people horrifically taken, and secondly, they're like family.'

"It's the one thing about country music that's always been at the center of it, and that is community," Urban added. "It's about community. And so I did know those people in that way, and it just really hit me."
