Ruston Kelly's Mercy Lounge set during the 2018 AmericanaFest on Friday (Sept. 14) featured a very special appearance from his wife and fellow country star, Kacey Musgraves, who surprised fans by taking the stage alongside Kelly to duet on his new song, "Just for the Record," which appears on his latest album, Dying Star.  Press play above to see a clip of the simple, harmony-laden performance.

Kelly wrote "Just for the Record" with producer and songwriter Jarrad K, as well as fellow country artist Lucie Silvas. The song appears on Silvas' August 2018 album, E.G.O., as well as on Dying Star, which each artist offering their rendition of the track.

Everyone involved with making Kelly's latest release, including both Jarrad K and Musgraves, is also important to Kelly's personal life, and the singer recently said in an interview that his creative partnerships often also feature strong elements of mutual personal respect and admiration. Kelly and Musgraves have often teamed up for duets, including "To June This Morning," a musical adaption of a poem written by Johnny Cash, which is included on the 2018 Johnny Cash: Forever Words tribute album to the Man in Black.

Dying Star was released on Sept. 7, and deals with the themes of darkness and addiction, as well as recovery, hope and gratitude for life. Kelly will be launching a headlining tour this fall in support of the album. For more information, and a full tour schedule, head over to his website.
