Fresh off the release of her latest album, Pageant Material, Kacey Musgraves paid a visit to The View this week to perform the disc's title track for the first time on TV.

"It's just kind of a satirical song poking fun at myself for not being pageant-perfect all the time," Musgraves explains of the tune, which she co-wrote with Luke Laird and Shane McAnally.

The 26-year-old says that she didn't have to look far to find inspiration for any of Pageant Material's tunes.

"[I'm inspired by] real life," Musgraves notes. "Things I'm going through. Things friends and family are going through. One thing that I really love about country music is that it's always been just about real life."

Musgraves' sophomore record was arguably one of the most-anticipated albums of 2015, but the singer-songwriter says that she simply focused on making the record that she wanted to make.

“I didn’t really have any intentions going in, except for just wanting to write good songs, country songs,” she maintains. “All my songs are inspired by what’s going on in my world and in my life.”

Earlier this week, Mugraves announced she was launching her 2015 Country & Western Rhinestone Revue tour, which will kick off in Atlanta, Ga., in August. Already, Musgraves is making plans for how she will spend her limited downtime while traveling.

"I'm lucky," she says. "I have two girls with me on the road, too, so we get some girl time, but they're pretty well-behaved. They're polite. We like to venture out, find local food. I love getting massages. Just trying tor relax when I can."

Pageant Material is available on Amazon and iTunes.
