John Rich, Wynonna, Kenny Rogers Sing for Heroes
John Rich's Tweet about his performance with Kenny Rogers and Wynonna this past weekend in San Antonio says it all: "Holy smokes! Just KILLED IT in San Antonio with Wynonna and Kenny Rogers!!! 'Lady,' 'Love Can Build A Bridge' ... major highlight of my career!!"
Wynonna also took to her Twitter page after the special concert, announcing that it raised close to $1 million for organizations that assist wounded military personnel.
Wy, John and Kenny weren't the only ones who offered power-packed performances before a crowd that included more than 25 wounded soldiers and their families at the J.W. Marriott in San Antonio. The 82nd Airborne Division's All-American Chorus received a standing ovation from the crowd when it sang the anthem for each military division, according to the San Antonio Business Journal.
"San Antonio is known as Military City USA, so what better way to honor the brave men and women who protect and serve our country every day," Arthur Coulombe, the J.W. Marriott's general manager, told the San Antonio Express-News.
Kenny and Wynonna will soon share the stage again -- along with Dolly Parton, Lionel Richie, Alison Krauss, The Oak Ridge Boys and Smokey Robinson -- for the taping of Kenny's television special, 'The First 50 Years.' The show and taping is set for April 10 at Foxwoods Resort Casino's MGM Grand Theatre in Mashantucket, Ct. For details and tickets, go to Kenny's website.
