Jo Dee Messina has released the third single, 'He's Messed Up,' from her latest 'Me' album. But the songstress, who co-wrote the song with Alyssa Bonagura, admits she originally penned the tune for another artist instead.

"It's more of a rocking song, because I originally wrote that song for Pink to hear," Messina says." I wanted to co-write it with her while she was in town, but it ended up that she had a crazy schedule ... so I was like, 'I'm going to finish this song anyway.'"

The songstress reveals that the song, with lines like, "I wouldn't touch him with a 10-foot pole, no! / Now that I know all the things I know / He's never gonna change / Go on and walk away, yeah / 'Cause he's messed up," were inspired by a real person.

"Maybe this is too much behind the song, but it's about a guy in the industry who's, like, Joe Cool," she divulges. "He just thinks he's, like, the Cat's Meow, and I had seen him backstage, and all these little girls are hanging on him.

"He's not an artist. He's not a singer. But he's just some guy that thinks he's, like, the coolest thing, and he plays that off, and girls buy into it," Messina adds. "I remember seeing him backstage, with girls all around him, and I'm like, 'Dude.'

"I was like, 'Oh, young girl. Walk away,'" she continues. "He is messed up, you know? This guy is never going to change. He's a dog. He always will be a dog. And so, that's where literally the idea came up."

Messina used several of her backers from her Kickstarter campaign, which raised more than $120,000, in the studio to record parts of 'He's Messed Up.' Purchase 'Me' here.
