Jake Owen has released a second single from his still-untitled upcoming album.

Melodically, "American Country Love Song" is more traditionally country than Owen's previous single "Real Life." However, the singer has said that he's going for a '90s vibe with his new project, and the speak-singing he does in the verses certainly hearkens back to singer-songwriter Shawn Mullins' 1998 hit "Lullaby."

"It’s two tickets to a concert / It’s a Daytona airbrush T-shirt / Wonderin’ who’s gonna kiss who first ... It’s butterflies and Bud Lights / Under the stars and on the stripes of a beach towel ...," Owen sings. "Well, it’s 'Chris loves Jenny' on a license plate / It’s daddy gettin’ mad ‘cause you came home late / It’s one last kiss in the driveway ..."

The chorus of "American Country Love Song" celebrates quintessential ideas of love: "In every town and every place / There’s a boy who’s tryin’ to take a chance and dance / And find a way to run away with her heart / In the back of an old Ford truck / In the bar just lookin’ for luck / In a pair of 'oh my' blue eyes / Let them fireworks start / That American country love song / Ain’t never gonna quit playin’ on and on and on."

Owen has described the songs on his upcoming record as tunes that "sonically feel like the beach ... They feel like something you’d play if you were sitting there," and "American Country Love Song" fits that bill. Ross Copperman, Ashley Gorley and Jaren Johnston penned the track. Copperman and Gorley are two of the four writers of "Real Life" as well.

The artist says that his new record will be more of a concept album from top to bottom. It’s something he hasn’t tried before, but he believes that it makes the most sense when looking at what he wanted his record to portray.

“I’ve never made a record like that before. I’ve made a record with a bunch of random songs on it that worked on radio, but I want a piece of material that is consistent throughout each song, that talks about that feeling of growing up,” Owen notes. “The feeling of looking back and the feeling of appreciating it all.”

A release date for Owen's upcoming disc has not yet been announced. "American Country Love Song" is available for download on iTunes.
