Elana James, vocalist and fiddler for the jazzy, Western Swing band Hot Club of Cowtown, is paying tribute to an American hero with her new song, 'Hey Beautiful.' The song's lyrics are taken from a letter written by US Army Staff Sgt. Juan Campos (1979-2007). It was one of the last written to his wife from Iraq.

Elana read Campos' words in a March 2008 New York Times article called 'Six of the Fallen, in Words They Sent Home,' which featured excerpts from e-mail messages, journals and web postings of six soldiers who have died in Iraq since January 1, 2007.

Moved by this particular letter, Elana was inspired to put the fallen soldier's words to music. 'Hey Beautiful' is the letter just as Campos wrote it (although it has been edited slightly for length).
