Hank Williams, Jr. Compares President to Hitler, Gets Pulled From ‘Monday Night Football’

Hank Williams, Jr. won’t be asking, “Are you ready for some football?” tonight. ESPN has pulled the country legend’s opening video from tonight’s game (Indianapolis at Tampa Bay), after he made a bold political statement on this morning’s ‘FOX & Friends‘ live broadcast.

“Remember the golf game?” Bocephus asked the show’s co-hosts, referring to President Obama’s golf summit with House Speaker John Boehner this summer during the height of the national budget crisis. “That was one of the biggest political mistakes ever … Come on! That’d be like Hitler playing golf with (Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin) Netanyahu!”

FOX anchor Gretchen Carlson reminded the singer that Adolph Hitler was one of the most hated men in world history. But he didn’t back down. “Well that’s true,” Hank Jr. responded. “But I’m telling you like it is.”

When further pressured to explain his controversial comparison, Hank Jr. responded that he feels President Obama and Vice President Joe Biden are “the enemy” and then likened them to ‘The Three Stooges.’

ESPN issued a statement this afternoon explaining to fans why they won’t see the singer kick off ‘Monday Night Football’ like they have every Monday during the NFL season for the past 20 years.

“While Hank Williams, Jr. is not an ESPN employee, we recognize that he is closely linked to our company through the open to ‘Monday Night Football,'” reads a post on the network’s website. “We are extremely disappointed with his comments, and as a result we have decided to pull the open from tonight’s telecast.”

Hank Jr. is a longtime, outspoken supporter of the Republican party, campaigning for George W. Bush in 2000 and for John McCain in 2008. The country superstar has even talked of running for one of Tennessee’s U.S. Senate seats in 2012.
