George Jones Surprises Kenny Chesney on Stage

Kenny Chesney has played countless concerts before millions of fans, but this past weekend is one show the superstar isn't likely to forget anytime soon. Playing on Saturday, May 14, in front of a packed crowd in Lexington, Ky. as part of his Goin' Coastal tour, Kenny was halfway through his cover of George Jones' hit, 'Small Y'all,' when the Possum surprised him by walking out on stage in the middle of his song.

It was a covert operation that Kenny's band and crew had been planning for weeks, and managed to keep a surprise. "There's nothing like sharing the stage with your heroes, and when George walked on stage in Lexington it was one of the biggest thrills of my life!" Kenny shares on his website. "He means so much to so many and it meant the world to me that he came to the show."

Kenny, who recorded 'Small Y'all' with George for his latest album, 'Hemingway's Whiskey,' says the tune is an instant mood-booster, on and off the stage. "George recorded this song first, and I've had his version in my car for years. It puts me in a good mood instantly," he explains. "When we decided to record it for the album, it was a no-brainer to call George and ask him to be a part of it. When he comes in on the song, it's so special because I love the guy. He's been a part of my life for a while, and he's obviously a hero and somebody who inspires me, and somebody who means a lot to the world of music."

The 79-year-old music icon then sang his classic hit, 'He Stopped Loving Her Today,' before exiting the stage. Kenny will continue his Goin' Coastal tour with a stop in South Carolina and Georgia later this week. See his concert schedule here.
