A new music festival is coming to Muskogee, Okla., in 2016.

The inaugural G Fest is set to take place June 16-19, 2016, featuring Merle Haggard, the Avett Brothers and the Turnpike Troubadours, among others. Old Crow Medicine Show, the Swon Brothers and Uncle Lucius have also been announced for the first-ever G Fest, and more acts will be added in the coming months.

“The G Fest Music Festival will be the highlight of the 2016 calendar in Muskogee. Merle Haggard put us on the map, and celebrating our heritage through music solidifies Muskogee as Oklahoma’s Music City,” says Treasure McKenzie, President & CEO of the Muskogee Chamber of Commerce and Tourism. “We are very excited about the economic impact and awareness this event will bring to Muskogee!”

G Fest is being presented by the Oklahoma Music Hall of Fame, the City of Muskogee, the City of Muskogee Foundation and Muskogee Tourism.

“With the City of Muskogee's desire to repurpose Hatbox Airfield into a multi-event facility and the growth of Oklahoma Music Hall of Fame over the past three years, there is a perfect opportunity to establish a music festival that is unique to Muskogee,” says Jim Blair, event director of G Fest. “We wanted to create an event to celebrate the rich music history of the area, and who better to perform than the Okie from Muskogee himself, [Merle Haggard]?"
