Fred Eaglesmith Touring Behind New Album

Noted alternative country singer-songwriter Fred Eaglesmith is set to tour behind his 20th album, a collection of songs heavily influenced by the rock and roll of the late ’60s.

‘Tambourine’ was released in November, and was recorded live in an old hall in Vittoria, Ontario using an eight-track analog console.

“When I put the songs together for ‘Tambourine,’ I was thinking about the days when there were five push buttons on an automobile radio,” Eaglesmith explains in a press release. “Everyone was listening to AM stations and, at any given time, one of those five buttons was playing a song worth listening to.”

Eaglesmith has been known more as a lyricist, but ‘Tambourine’ takes a more focused look at the music rather than the words, with bass lines and guitar riffs pulled straight from late ’60s rock and Motown influences.

“The album is a walk through the garden of rock ‘n’ roll. The music’s roots are firmly dug in the mid-to-late ’60s,” Eaglesmith says. “The primary essence is 1966 — the year that gave us Bob Dylan’s ‘Blonde on Blonde’ and Question Mark & the Mysterians.”

Along with recording the new album, Eaglesmith’s full-time tour, the Fred Eaglesmith Traveling Steam Show, saw more than 270 days on the road in 2013, traveling the country in his 1990 Bluebird tour bus. The tour continues with dates in 2014 to support the release of ‘Tambourine.’
