Eli Young Band’s Tour Bus Catches Fire

The Eli Young Band‘s tour bus caught fire outside of Topeka, Kan., in the early-morning hours of Jan. 18. Fortunately, no one was injured in the incident, but the vehicle (one of two that the band and their crew use, according to a press release), an attached trailer and nearly everything in them is a complete loss.

Around 2AM ET on Jan. 18, a video was posted to the EYB’s Facebook page, showing the back of the band’s tour bus engulfed in flames. A photo shared to Instagram shows how the fire spread to the trailer and further up into the bus.

“We’ve lost more than a bus here. There are memories and possessions that we can’t replace!” the Instagram post’s caption reads. “It’s really sad to see her go. We’re just happy that our driver, Randy, is safe!”

None of the Eli Young Band’s members was aboard the bus at the time of the incident, the press release confirms. The band’s driver, Randy Moore — who was taking the vehicle to Minnesota, where the group is scheduled to perform on Friday (Jan. 20) — was unharmed, and managed to save one guitar as he escaped from the burning vehicle.

“This is a sad moment,” EYB bassist Jon Jones says in a statement. “So many great memories and things collected over the years that can’t be replaced, but we know how much worse it could have been.”

The Topeka Capital-Journal reports that the fire was called in around 12:45AM local time. The bus was at Interstate 70’s East Topeka service area, which is located approximately 10 miles east of downtown Topeka; the press release explains that Moore was planning to sleep there for the night. The Shawnee Heights Fire District responded to the call.

The Eli Young Band’s current single is “Saltwater Gospel.” They are working on a new album.
