Chris Young Takes a Single Man’s Pop Quiz

Chris Young is HOT! Just ask the Country Weekly readers who voted him country music's hottest bachelor in 2006 and 2009.

The Boot caught up with Chris in Florida and discovered that even though he was proud of the honor (and his second and third place finishes in 2008 and 2007, respectively), his band, naturally, had to give him a hard time. "As soon as it happened [the first time]," he tells us, "I walked on the bus, and my band had taken Photoshop and cropped my head on to different bodies and put posters of it around the bus as a joke."

All joking aside, Chris is (as of this writing!) both single and available. So, put on your best 'Gettin' You Home' black dress, and enjoy this single man's pop quiz.



On a scale of 1 to 10, how important is it for you to be in love?

Hopefully everybody answers that question with a 10. If you're going to stay with somebody in a long-term relationship, that's your big thing. You're looking to be in love with somebody, so I'd say 10. That's a big deal.

Do you remember your first kiss?

If you don't, something's wrong with you! Everybody remembers that. It worked out good. The first kiss is always fun.

What are five important qualities in a girl you would date?

1. You've got to be OK with staying up late, because I don't operate on the same hours as a normal person. 2. Being somebody that's OK with going to McDonald's or going to Morton's (Steakhouse). You've got to be able to do both, because sometimes I feel like one or the other. 3. You've got to have a good sense of humor. I crack jokes about stuff all the time, so that's a big thing for me. 4. You've got to be into music. 5. You've got to love going to go see a good movie.

Would you go on a blind date?



Probably not. I've never been on one. That's scary!

Is it hard for you to meet women?



I don't know if it's hard. It's one of those things that just kind of happens naturally. If you go out looking for something, it's almost like you'll never find it. And then right when you're not looking for it, it sneaks up on you.

What qualities in a woman could you just not tolerate?

Probably the biggest thing is if somebody got really jealous of everything, like time and space. I just like to be laid back. So if somebody wasn't really able to be laid back, that would probably really bother me.

Have you ever had a broken heart?



I think everybody has.

How do you mend a broken heart?

Writing songs is a really big way. Everybody has their favorite sad songs. That's part of what I love so much about country music. Country music is never afraid to go with a sad song. Not taking anything away from any of the other genres, but I think country music probably does sad songs the best.

Are you so preoccupied with your career right now that you don't have time to date?

I don't know that I would say never, but there's just not a whole lot of time. It's probably God and family up there at the top and then directly under that is career. All of those take up a whole lot of time. I know this is a long answer, but my dad just got diagnosed with cancer last year, and he's really lucky in the fact that he had lung cancer and they went into surgery and got all of it. I think they cut a third of his lung out, but they got all of the cancer out. He's going through chemo right now, and it's really hard on him. The chemo is kicking his butt. That's one of the things that sobers you up and adds another facet to your life when somebody really close to you goes through something like that. I definitely make time for my family on top of being gone on the road so much because I'm not married right now, and I don't have any kids. So my sister and my mom and my dad [are a priority]. There's always room to make time for things in your life, but right now I'm just pretty focused on the career and family.

Is there a girl you'd like to see at your high school reunion?



Not really. I don't even know if we have a high school reunion. If they're going to have a 10-year reunion, that would be in three years, but I haven't thought about it.

How do you act when you have a huge crush on someone?



Usually I try not to talk to them so I don't embarrass myself. [laughs]

When was the last time you got the first date jitters?

It's been a couple of years ago. It was the beginning of a relationship thing. I think that's pretty much always the way it is if you're going out on a date with somebody, and it's not just to hang out -- you really like the person. It's kind of hard. Some people hide it better than others, but it's hard not to get first date jitters.

What would your idea be of a fun date?

Dinner is always really good. It makes you nervous, but it's always easy for you to kind of get to know somebody because you end up talking about stuff the whole time and you find out if you have anything in common.

Do you have a favorite Valentine's Day memory?



I've got a great one. When I was a kid -- and any time I refer to my dad, I'm talking about my mom and my stepdad -- when he asked my mom to marry him was on Valentine's Day. We heard something going on downstairs. We heard my mom yell something real loud. My sister and I ran downstairs, and she had this ring on her finger, and the very first thing my stepdad did was to ask us if he had our permission. He topped anything I could ever do on Valentine's Day for a girl – ever!
