Blake Shelton is getting ready to return to his role as coach for Season 5 of 'The Voice,' and whoever lands on his team will have the help of one of rock music's biggest icons. Cher has been announced as a mentor on the upcoming season for Team Blake.

Shelton admits he is a big fan of Cher, who sang during the finale of Season 4 of 'The Voice' in June. "I lost my dad a year and a half ago," he told Yahoo's Reality Rocks after her performance. "And my dad's favorite artist on Earth, bar none, no question, was Cher. My dad worshiped Cher. I wish he could have seen tonight's episode, because I would've been texting him saying, 'Hey, I met Cher! I took a picture with Cher!'"

The 'Mine Would Be You' singer says he thinks her legendary career will be an undeniable asset to the reality TV singing competition. "It was a real big deal to meet her," he adds. "She's just as viable and important to music today as she ever was."

Cher, whose first album was released in 1965, admits she would have auditioned for 'The Voice' if it had been available when she was first starting her career. "Oh, gosh, yeah. Are you kidding?" she says. "I would have been like, 'Ah! Let me in!'"

Other celebrity mentors include Taylor Swift's current opening act, Ed Sheeran, on Christina Aguilera's team, OneRepublic's Ryan Tedder on Adam Levine's team, and Miguel on Team Cee Lo Green.

Shelton has been the winning coach for the last three seasons on the hit TV show. Season 5 of 'The Voice' will premiere on Monday, Sept. 23 on NBC.
