Charlie Daniels Band have released a rare collection of seven live recordings from 1979, the fifth year of the Volunteer Jam.

The project marks the first in a series of Volunteer Jam EPs produced by Daniels that will be released in the coming months. All of the recordings will be available for digital download.

"This collection goes right down through the middle of the CDB catalog, a good representation of where the band was at the time," Daniels says in a press release.

Blue Hat Records President and Charlie Daniels' personal manager, David Corlew, has been with the band since the time of the live shows that are now being released, and saw the Volunteer Jam in person.

"I was lucky to have been there in the middle of the southern rock movement with Charlie ... it was a special time in the history of the genre,” he says in a press release. “Now, with the wide range of online digital music outlets that exist today, we are able to share many more of these great vintage live CDB performances from the height of the southern rock era with both CDB fans, and fans of great music as well.”

The first in the series recordings was released digitally on Dec. 17. It is available for download at iTunes.
