Carrie Underwood has revealed a brand-new single, "Smoke Break," from her upcoming new album, Storyteller.

The singer revealed the news in a Facebook chat on Thursday (Aug. 20), saying, "I have new music. Woo-hoo! I'm so excited for you guys to hear it."

Underwood told fans that the new tune was written with songwriters Hillary Lindsey and Chris DeStefano, and produced by Jay Joyce.

"The song itself is one of those story songs I feel like everybody can relate to, about how life is so hectic," Underwood explains. "And it's so nice when -- if and when -- you actually get to step away for a second. We all need that, and we all need that time to ourselves and to get to take a break."

The lyrics of "Smoke Break" tell the stories of "a small-town hard-working woman" and "a big-city hard-working man" in the two verses, while the chorus speaks of that need to relax every so often.

"I don’t drink, but sometimes I need a stiff drink / Sipping from a highball glass, let the world fade away / Yeah, and I don’t smoke, but sometimes I need a long drag ...," Underwood sings. "When the day gets long, when the work’s all done / When the sun sets, when you need to forget / Grab that cup, fill it up / Sip it slow, and let it all go."

Fans may notice that the new song sounds like Underwood -- with an edge.

“There’s definitely a different sound that’s coming together,” Underwood reveals. “I want everything to have its own space and look different, sound different, feel different. So I’ve been working with another producer, as well as with Mark Bright, who I’m always gonna love, but getting things a little different, and it’s been fun."

She adds that the new album has a "different sort of twang ... kind of a rock twang. So there should be some things that [fans] hopefully have liked about the music we’ve done, but also a little growth, a little bit of shift, so still things they’ve liked but new things to see, hear and feel.”

"Smoke Break" is available to buy on iTunes or to stream on Spotify. It will appear on Underwood's upcoming record, Storyteller, which is scheduled to drop on Oct. 23.
