Carrie Underwood to Perform in Honor of Oklahoma Tornado Victims at 2013 CMT Music Awards

Carrie Underwood is a proud Oklahoma native, and she'll honor her state's recent loss with a special performance at the 2013 CMT Music Awards on Wednesday night (June 5). Underwood will sing her current single, 'See You Again,' in memory of those who lost their lives in the devastating tornado that swept through Moore, Okla. on May 20.

She'll be joined by two dozen members of Nashville's Christ Church choir. "The choir, I've never done that before and they just kind of take it to a whole ethereal place," Underwood tells the Washington Post (quote via Taste of Country).

Growing up in Checotah, Okla., Underwood was familiar with tornado drills. "The people in Oklahoma are really great. Tornado season is something that we're all used to but you can never fully prepare for it," she observes. "It takes what it wants and it knocks down what it wants and there's nothing you can do about it except just try to be prepared. They're just wonderful people and they're going to rebuild and they're going to bounce back stronger than ever."

Underwood also donated $1 million of the proceeds from her recently-wrapped Blown Away Tour to the Red Cross to help aid the hardest-hit victims of the tornado. Viewers will be given instructions on how to donate to the Red Cross during her performance on the CMT Music Awards, which air live from Nashville's Bridgestone Arena at 8PM ET on CMT.
