At the Grammy Awards, Best Country Song is a category awarded to the songwriter, and in 2018, the nominees include not only legendary Nashville names but also many talented artists who have penned their own tunes.

"Better Man" earned Little Big Town a nomination for Best Country Duo / Group Performance at the 2018 Grammys, and it also appears on this list. Songwriter Taylor Swift says she had the group in mind when she penned the tune.

"Body Like a Back Road" was written by Sam Hunt as well as tunesmiths Zach Crowell, Josh Osborne and Shane McAnally. The record-breaking hit has spent more time in the No. 1 slot on the country charts than any song in history.

Chris Stapleton and his former SteelDrivers bandmate Mike Henderson co-wrote "Broken Halos," which Stapleton recorded for his 2017 album From A Room: Volume 1The song was written after Stapleton lost a friend to cancer, and it captures all of the grief and emotion of untimely death.

"Drinkin' Problem" by Midland has also been nominated for Best Country Duo / Group Performance at this year's Grammy Awards. Written by band members Mark Wystrach, Cameron Duddy and Jess Carson, along with hit songwriters Shane McAnally and Josh Osborne, "Drinkin' Problem" was penned as Midland were just getting to know McAnally and Osborne.

"Tin Man" also put Miranda Lambert on the nomination list for Best Country Solo Performance at the 2018 Grammy Awards. She wrote the song with Jon Randall and Jack Ingram in the summer of 2015 and recorded it for her double-disc album The Weight of These Wings.
