The Americana Music Association has announced the list of performers and presenters for the upcoming Americana Music Awards.

The awards are part of the 2014 Americana Music Festival, which takes place in Nashville Sept. 17 - 21. The festival features over 175 acts, a huge number compared to years past, but AMA Executive Director Jed Hilly says that more than 900 bands applied to play.

"We couldn’t fit them all in, but I can tell you that you will be able to go into any club at any time -- and even if you’ve heard of the band or not, you will have a good time," he tells Billboard.

Americana music has been booming over the past couple of years. The success of bands like Mumford & Sons, the Avett Brothers and the Civil Wars has brought the genre to the forefront critically and commercially, a feat Hilly says can be partially attributed to the genre's acceptance of unique artists.

"Someone told me they appreciated what we do because we put unknown artists before people with the same energy as we do our biggest stars," he says. "I think there is a sense within the community that it’s about mastering a craft. It’s about musicianship and great songwriting ... There’s a uniqueness to the artists, and I think the organization supports that. We’re not corporate-dominated. That’s pretty apparent. We curate our festival and conference line-up. It’s not label showcases."

The annual Honors & Awards show is set to take place on Sept. 17. The AMA will honor Loretta Lynn, Jackson Browne, Taj Mahal and Flaco Jimenez with Lifetime Achievement Awards during the ceremony.

"I'm really excited about Flaco Jimenez," Hilly says. "To me, he embodies that spirit of playing music to be happy, and because he has to. I’m most honored to sit in this seat and be able to honor someone like that."
