Martina McBride and Naomi Judd were just a few of the guests who attended poet Maya Angelou's birthday party. The celebrated author turned 82 in April and decided to throw herself a party Thursday, May 20, in the backyard garden of her North Carolina home.

Martina and Naomi serenaded Maya with 'Happy Birthday,' and Martina tweeted, "She inspires me to be a better person. Priceless day."

Other famous faces expected attending the fete included rapper-actor Common and producer-director Lee Daniels ('Precious'). In addition, Maya was set to launch her own Twitter account at the party in Winston-Salem. She already has more than 385,000 fans on Facebook.

The celebrated author is no stranger to country music. In fact, Angelou has chatted with many of the stars, including Sara Evans and Montgomery Gentry on her 'Oprah and Friends' Radio Show. She also was so moved by Eddie and Troy's song, 'Some People Change,' that she invited the duo to perform the song at her show in Nashville a couple of years ago.

Martina has a couple of weeks off the road before she hits St. Petersburg, Fla., on June 5.
