Jason Aldean Plays for Fans, Not Critics

Jason Aldean is currently on the road taking his music to the masses on the Wide Open arena tour. As an artist who cares a lot about pleasing fans who show up to see him perform, he also understands that making everyone happy isn't always possible. And he's OK with that.

"I don't think it's important for me to be liked by everyone," Jason tells The Boot. "You're not going to please everybody; you've got to know that going in. As an entertainer, you've got to be true to yourself. You've got to do things that make you happy. There's always going to be people that don't like what you do or they get pissed off at you or whatever it is, and you can't worry about that stuff. It's inevitable. I go out and I do things the way I want to do them, and don't intentionally try to hurt anybody or piss anybody off, but if it happens, it happens. I'm not going to lose any sleep over it."

Jason also reveals that he isn't concerned about critical reviews written by a single newspaper reporter. "I used to read them. I don't really pay much attention any more," he says of concert reviews. "If you've got 10,000 people sitting in seats, obviously you're doing something right. I'm not going to let one guy's opinion who shows up to the show to write a review who either doesn't like country music that much anyway, or this particular person may not like what I do, may not like my voice or my song or whatever ... I'm not going to spend my time reading that stuff because you've got people sitting in the seats, so that's the tale-tell sign. I could really care less what some reviewer has to say about my show. It's the people that's actually buying a ticket and coming to see us; those are the ones that I really care about their opinion, not somebody that's coming out to judge how my show is."

Jason will be back out on the Wide Open tour Feb. 18, with a show in Huntsville, Ala. Luke Bryan and Ash Bowers are also on the bill.
