Wynonna Sings Her Life Story

For her latest album, all Wynonna had to do was look back at her own life and the music that provided the soundtrack to 40-plus years of memories. While the journey to the 12 tracks on 'Sing - Chapter 1,' represents a lifetime, it took the singer, along with producers Don Potter and Brent Maher, the better part of a year and a half to assemble.

'Sing - Chapter 1,' out this week, is the powerhouse vocalist's seventh studio album, a collection of her favorite country, pop, soul and blues standards, each one tied to particular experience or event from her past.

As a teenager confined to her room for not doing her chores, Wynonna would belt out Bonnie Raitt's 'Women Be Wise,' (written and first performed by blues legend Sippie Wallace) at the top of her lungs. 'The House Is a-Rockin' transports her to the time she was getting made-up for a night out while brothers Jimmie Vaughan and Stevie Ray Vaughan practiced in the kitchen nearby.

"During the last year, I've started gravitating toward the past," says Wynonna. "I have such an incredible history of these songs being played in the background while I'm living my life. So the whole album is a real cross-section of all the different genres I grew up with. It's all me, its all part of the tapestry of who I am."

And, as the sequel-ready title suggests, these tunes represent just one portion of the singer's incredibly rich musical heritage.
