Mike and the Moonpies, ‘Smoke ‘Em If You Got ‘Em’ Music Video [Exclusive Premiere]
Mike and the Moonpies have a brand-new music video, for "Smoke 'Em If You Got 'Em," from their new record, Mockingbird, and The Boot is premiering it exclusively for its readers.
The six-man band is led by Texas native Mike Harmeier. "Smoke 'Em If You Got 'Em" is the group's current single from Mockingbird, the Moonpies' third full-length offering, which dropped in the spring. The song focuses on the band's evolution in the music industry, and the record as a whole celebrates the impact of Harmeier's father and grandfather on the man he is today.
“The older I get, the more I realize how much I emulate them," Harmeier explains, "whether it’s the clothes I wear, the way I talk or the music that surrounded me in my formative years.
"My grandpa passed when I was only seven, so I have very few memories of our time together, but the ones I do have are very vivid," he adds. "When I think about him, I hear the music that was playing in the barn where we raised rabbits and at the Longbranch Saloon, where he would let me play the jukebox. That’s how I spent my afternoons as a kid: drinking Sprite at the bar with my grandpa and playing songs on the jukebox -- Randy Travis, George Strait, Clint Black, the Allman Brothers, the Marshall Tucker Band, Bob Seger, stuff like that. I wanted this record to sound like that jukebox.”
Touring is grueling work, and the "Smoke 'Em If You Got 'Em" music video chronicles the band's life on the road, from the long days to their convenience store antics, plus those glorious hours off, which they spend reeling in fish.
Mockingbird was produced by Harmeier and longtime friend and musician Michael Kingcaid. It features 10 new songs, all penned by the Moonpies' frontman.
