Mac McAnally received the 2014 CMA Award for Musician of the Year prior to the ceremony broadcast on Nov. 5.

The win was McAnally's seventh consecutive one in the category; he's received the award every year since 2008. According to the Country Music Association, the guitarist broke the record for the most Musician of the Year wins with this year's victory. He was previously tied with fiddler Mark O'Connor.

"I have to be the least deserving winner ... but that doesn't mean I'm not grateful for it," says McAnally. "The guys I'm nominated with honestly deserve it at least as much as I deserve it ... But I'm the most grateful guy that's ever gotten the award, I'll say that."

In addition to being a renowned studio musician, McAnally serves as a member of Jimmy Buffett's Coral Reefer Band. He last released a solo album in 2011, 'Live: In Muscle Shoals.' He's had two singles make their way into the Billboard Hot 100 and six land on the Hot Country Songs chart.
