Party Pooper: Party City Closing Locations Across America
Whether you have a 5-year-old's princess themed birthday party to throw, or you are the maid of honor at your BFF's wedding and you have to put together a huge bachelorette party, chances are you will hit Party City for all the goods.
From its humble beginnings in New Jersey in 1986, to nationwide coverage of more than 850 stores, Party City has been a niche stop in the retail game, offering a very specific lane of items, some that can only be found at their stores.
Party Pooper: Party City Closing Locations Across America
In January, Party City entered Chapter 11 bankruptcy in order to restructure their debts and try to make a plan to move ahead. They've recently emerged from their Chapter 11 bankruptcy with a plan that includes closing a number of stores across America.
So far, 36 Party City stores have closed in 17 states. You can see the full list of closures here.
There is no known reason these specific stores were chosen for closure, but you can assume it has to do with underperformance.
Party City carries more than 45,000 items in their stores — that's is a lot of items they keep stocked, so when some perform better than others, it becomes counterproductive to have large numbers of items that don't sell taking up shelf space.
If the manager and employees of the stores don't stay ahead of those waves, they can quickly come crashing down. Other factors that can contribute to closures are location and demographics of each store.
If you have an upcoming party to plan, or just need some gold plastic cups for an event and your local Party City has been shut down, fear not: You can still shop online with them.
