Maren Morris Doesn’t Regret Brittany Aldean Feud: ‘I Stand By It’
Maren Morris wasn't expecting her feud with Jason Aldean's wife Brittany to go as viral as it did. Still, she's got no regrets about standing up for her beliefs.
"I don't really have any tweets that I've regretted," Morris says in an episode of Cosmopolitan's Cheap Shots, a game-show style interview format that finds her answering rapid-fire questions — or taking shots to avoid doing so.
"I will say I didn't think my 'Insurrection Barbie' tweet to a certain someone would have picked up so much momentum," she admits, "but I stand by it."
Of course, Morris is referring to a 2022 social media spat that started when Brittany made some transphobic comments on an Instagram reel. A heated social media exchange ensued. Brittany appeared on Tucker Carlson Tonight to discuss her positions on gender-affirming care for teens, and both of them came out with limited T-shirt lines with sales proceeds earmarked for a charity on their side of the issue.
Morris' tee read "Lunatic Country Music Person" — a nod to a description of her that appeared during the Tucker Carlson segment — while Brittany's read "Insurrection Barbie," a call-back to the Morris tweet in question.
"It's so easy to, like, not be a scumbag human?" reads the infamous tweet. "Sell your clip-ins and zip it, Insurrection Barbie."
Brittany directed the money from her T-shirt sales to Operation Light Shine, a Nashville-based organization that combats human trafficking and child exploitation. Meanwhile, Morris directed hers to the Trans Lifeline and the GLAAD Transgender Media Program.
Elsewhere in her Cheap Shots interview, Morris addressed her recent onstage wardrobe malfunction, explaining that the denim skirt that caused it was actually a back-up outfit after she'd suffered another behind-the-scenes wardrobe malfunction earlier in the day. you can check out the full interview above.
