Kelsea Ballerini Lands Role in New ABC Drama, ‘Doctor Odyssey’ [Watch]
Kelsea Ballerini is one of two country stars spotted in the trailer for a new ABC drama called Doctor Odyssey.
It's a show that explores how doctors and nurses aboard a cruise ship navigate their jobs and personal lives. Ballerini appears in the very first few seconds of the just-released trailer.
- Joshua Jackson (Dawson's Creek) stars as Dr. Max Bankman in Doctor Odyssey.
- The crew work on a luxury cruise ship "where the staff works hard and plays harder" (per TVLine).
- The show premieres on ABC and Hulu on Sept. 26.
Technically, this is not Ballerini's acting debut, as she appeared during a season of Nashville in 2016. Her acting resume is thin, however, although that may soon change. Talking to Taste of Country Nights, she admitted friends like Reese Witherspoon have sold her on the idea.
It certainly helps that Ballerini's boyfriend is actor Chase Stokes. See if you can spot her and another country superstar in this trailer for Doctor Odyssey:
Yep, that's Shania Twain twirling around with actor Don Johnson. He's part of the show's cast, but episodes promise cameos by John Stamos, Gina Gershon, Chord Overstreet and more.
Ballerini describes her participation as "guest star," meaning she probably plays herself. The clip shows her getting checked out by Dr. Max, which means she had to spend quite a bit of time staring into Jackson's eyes.
"Spent the last few weeks literally screaming crying and throwing up in the dramatic, fabulous world of #doctorodyssey and crossing guest star off the bucket list," Ballerini writes on Instagram, confirming her appearance.
In June, Ballerini admitted that she'd always said "no" to acting roles because as a perfectionist, she was afraid she'd fail. After going through a very public divorce, she started to reconsider.
"The last few years I think I've just started running towards things that really terrify me, and so I'll probably try it," the "Cowboys Cry Too" singer told Evan Paul of ToC Nights.
"Cowboys Cry Too" is her duet with Noah Kahan. Expect it on the Patterns album, out Oct. 25.
