Jake Owen is celebrating one of the things he's most proud of in life: His sobriety.

The country singer hopped on social media to mark the anniversary of the day he decided to turn his life around. Sept. 16 marked three years since the life-changing day.

"September 16, 2021 was a pretty big day for me," he shares. "Three years ago I decided that was the day. And that was three years ago today. 1,096 days ago. 36 months ago."

"It might honestly be one of the things that I'm most proud of that I've ever done in my entire life," he adds.

The "Barefoot Blue Jean Night" singer notes that he was not happy with the person he became each time he drank.

"I was not a good person," he confesses. "I knew in my heart I was a way better person than the guy I was when I drank or just be an idiot so I said, 'I'm not doing this anymore.'"

Three years after that day, Owen says he is so happy for himself and the decision he made has made his life "incredible."

He also encourage those who are considering a sober life to take the leap. The country songwriter also offered to be a source of support to anyone who is trying to walk into sobriety, knowing "everybody needs a buddy."
