Florida Georgia Line’s Brian Kelley Helped Direct Their Upcoming ‘Smooth’ Video
Florida Georgia Line have two exciting career moments on the horizon: a new music video and a very special collaboration.
The duo will soon unveil a music video for "Smooth," one of the songs from their 2016 album Dig Your Roots. The video, which was co-directed by TK McKamy and FGL's Brian Kelley, finds Kelley and bandmate Tyler Hubbard stuck on the side of the road after their car breaks down. There, they encounter a pair of questionable characters: an Elvis impersonator and someone who just wants to party (the latter played by songwriter Craig Wiseman).
"It was amazing. It was probably one of the coolest experiences, writing the treatment myself and then watching it come to life with an amazing team ... They did a great job," Kelley shared with The Boot and other reporters at a recent media event. "Obviously, it wasn’t just me -- it was a great team. The day came together amazing; the weather worked out perfect for us.
"It was a very humbling experience," Kelley adds. "You have a vision, [and] to see it come to fruition and come to life, it’s cool. It’s a different creative outlet for me, and I’m grateful that Tyler and the guys let me do it."
Additionally, beginning in September, Florida Georgia Line fans will be able to hear the duo sing the official Monday Night Football theme song during the 2017-2018 NFL season, along with Hank Williams Jr. -- who sang the song for 20 years before being fired by ESPN in 2011 -- and Jason Derulo. The three acts recently came together to record the new theme song and film its accompanying video, and Kelley and Hubbard call the experience "super surreal."
"BK and I grew up hearing Hank [sing] ‘Are you ready for some football?’" Hubbard says. "So to get to be on the remake of that ... It’s just a really cool thing, and a part of history that we grew up watching and seeing it."
Florida Georgia Line are currently headlining their 2017 Smooth Tour, with Nelly and Chris Lane joining them on the road; the Backstreet Boys are special guests at select dates of the trek as well. A list of all of their upcoming shows is available on their website.
