Blake Shelton Uses His Day Off to Play Surprise Free Concert
What do you do when you're a country star with a free day off? If you're Blake Shelton, you put on a free surprise concert, apparently. The singer began teasing his Twitter followers on Wednesday morning (July 27) before announcing a last-minute show in Kansas City, Mo.
Shelton's tweets began around 11AM ET: "Hmmmm ... Well ... Let's play a game y'all," he wrote. "I have the day off and a map of the United States in front of me. Where should I go?" When a follower asked if he was planning a surprise show, the artist responded that he was "just thinking of going somewhere, but hell, I guess I could." After a few more teasing messages, Shelton revealed his plans: a free concert at Kansas City's Whiskey Tango.
For fans lucky enough to be in the Kansas City area -- or able to get there on very short notice -- doors for Shelton's surprise show will open at 7:30PM, and the show will begin at 9PM. Concertgoers must be 21 or older to get in the door; the first 2,500 people of age will get in.
Shelton has a fall tour planned to begin in September, but he hasn't been on the road since his spring tour wrapped in March, save for a few one-off festival dates. However, the artist has kept busy filming the next season of The Voice -- and making surprise appearances on tour with girlfriend Gwen Stefani. In June, Shelton surprised CMA Fest-goers with an impromptu set at the Stage in Nashville. He also recently released a music video for his latest single, “She’s Got a Way With Words,” and a re-worked version of his song “Bringing Back the Sunshine” is the official theme song for NBC Sports’ NASCAR coverage.
